Your brand is YOU.

A brand identity is much more than a logo because even though the logo can be a symbol associated with your business, it is not the brand. Having a strong and prominent brand is incredibly important to be able to differentiate a brand from its competitors. Your brand identity is what your brand does, your values, your products and how you promote them, and how you want your consumers to feel when they interact with you. Your brand is you, so its identity must reflect YOU.

Creating your brand identity is not something that will happen from one day to the next. Choosing colours and making a logo in Canva is not enough, you need to be strategic and smart with your plan and create an identity that not only reflects what your brand is but also represents you. You need to be smart and calculated with your branding and identity. It’s not easy work, and it takes multiple attempts of trial and error, but ultimately, it’s the first thing your clients see when they come across your brand, so it needs to be great.

So, why do you need a brand identity?

Well, you need one because it’s a way to communicate with clients without actually talking to or interacting with them. Moreover, having a brand identity that differentiates itself from the competition can play a very strong move in your favour. Having a cohesive and strong brand identity is key to your brand’s success.

Moreover, if you want your consumers to have a consistent brand experience, you need to present a cohesive brand identity. As I said before, your brand is the first thing your consumers see, your brand is you, so make it good!

Factors of a Brand Identity

There are several factors that are included in the creation of a brand identity. There’s the logo, typography, colour palette, etc. And these sectors of the brand need to work together, because if your logo doesn’t look good with your brand colours, or with your typography and photography, then there is a problem with the image.

Creating your brand logo, even though it seems simple, is potentially one of the hardest things when it comes to brand identity. It needs to stand out, but it also needs to be simple and attractive to clients. It is not something you can make in half an hour and call it a day. Same with your colour palette and typography. Use colours that are attractive and complement each other, while also appealing to the eye and will make people want to interact with your brand. And when it comes to typography, use fonts that are smart and readable, nothing too comic-like or too “in your face” because that can also turn a potential client away from your brand.

Your brand is you, your brand identity is important and it needs to resonate with your target audience. You need to understand your audience, what attracts them, and what they like in order to get them to come to your brand.
